Configure the Hotspot customer experience

The captive portal is the browser experience presented to Hotspot users. It can show packages, branding, campaigns, support, terms, login options, voucher redemption, free trials, active-session resume, and device-purchase flows.

Select and preview a theme

Open Settings → Hotspot. The current application includes these themes: Lumen, Lumen Dark, Aurora, Neon, Monochrome, Simple, Classic, Sunrise, Marigold, Lagoon, Linen, Clay, Pebble, Nimbus, Halo, Slip, Vault, Badge, and Grid. Neon, Vault, Monochrome, and Lumen Dark are forced-dark themes. Use the built-in preview with the ISP’s real branding/data before saving. Different themes can support different background or section-order behavior.

Configure portal content

  • Select the template.
  • Upload a background only for themes that support it.
  • Set the post-purchase redirect if customers should leave the Hotspot flow after activation.
  • Configure terms acceptance and terms content in Branding.
  • Reorder supported portal blocks where the selected theme allows it.
  • Add numbered manual purchase instructions for Simple or Classic when needed.
  • Confirm the support contact and payment instructions.

Package purchase

  1. The portal identifies router/device context.
  2. The customer chooses a visible package.
  3. The purchase dialog collects the gateway-specific required fields, often including phone/account context.
  4. The application initiates the provider flow.
  5. The status dialog polls the transaction.
  6. On success, the customer is redirected into the MikroTik login/authorized path or configured destination.
Closing the status dialog or refreshing does not cancel a provider request. Before starting a second payment, check the first transaction status.

Other authentication methods

The current captive flow can support:
  • username/password login;
  • voucher code redemption;
  • receipt-based login;
  • free trial when configured/eligible;
  • resume of an existing session;
  • Lite purchase/voucher pages;
  • explicit terms acceptance where required.
Available methods vary with account and router configuration.

Add another device or TV

The portal can let a customer identify another device using nearby-device discovery or manual MAC entry, verify the masked device identifier, choose a package, and purchase for that device. A TV-specific connection/status flow supports browserless devices where enabled. Treat MAC identity as sensitive network context. The customer should match the last characters against the actual device settings before purchase.

Promo banners

Captive campaigns can appear as portal banners and record clicks. Keep the banner destination reachable from the walled garden and relevant to the current location/package audience.

Troubleshooting

  • Blank/no packages: check package type, status, portal visibility, NAS restriction, and router context.
  • Payment site unreachable: sync the walled garden and confirm provider domains/network DNS.
  • Pending never resolves: check the payment ledger/provider callback before retrying.
  • Terms error: enable acceptance only with saved terms and ensure the customer checked it.
  • Login loops: check credentials/voucher/receipt, expiry, device limits, existing sessions, and MikroTik redirect.
  • Theme works in preview but not router: redownload Hotspot assets and verify the router’s selected captive configuration.
